Notes by John Fowler

It's quite a long story on ending up here in Canada; but actually quite interesting. If you're really interested I can send you a summary which includes being a Far-Eastern managerial trainee in the Standard Chartered Bank in Bishopsgate, try-outs for a commission in the RAF at Biggin Hill, Greek Line to Montreal and the Canadian National Railway across 4000 miles to a Molybdenum mine, pulp testing in a pulp mill 500 miles up the coast in a town on stilts in the sea only accessible by sea-plane, driving an old car from Vancouver to Panama for 5 months, a stint at Ealing Film Studios where I met my future wife (a London dolly bird at the time in '68), and eventually settling down here 34 years ago where I cut down huge firs and constructed a geodesic dome overlooking the sea. I worked 5 miles away as a "millwright" in a Pulp mill...turner/fitter to you I think!

2 children and 2 grand-children. Just retired in September and doing odd jobs in the neighbourhood, carpentry etc. Having a great time. Have been back to England about 15 times; but prefer to travel to hot countries,(I grew up in Singapore and Indonesia).

Memories by John Fowler

I was best friends with Keith Fielder and Tony Lodge, and for a while with Richard Cherry when he was in one of his sensible periods. I've been hoping to get in touch with Tony Lodge for many years but there seems to be no contact. He had a small BSA at the time and we'd pretend to be Rockers and go down to the caffs during our art periods....

I joined the school after 13+, not 11+ as I came from a prep school in Eastbourne.

I just wish I could remember more about school...but didn't enjoy Rutlish and put most of it out of my mind I think. Did French, English and Art A Levels and all 3 stood me in good stead.

Regards

John Fowler
